The Vision Leading to Check Point’s Acquisition of Cyberint

The cyber threat landscape is complex and includes many vectors of attack. Organizations face critical security challenges every day, such as stolen employee credentials, fake websites, and social media impersonation. Taking a binary point of view, those threats can be divided into two simplistic dimensions: external and internal. According to the 2023 Verizon DBIR, the external threats consume 83% of the total threats.

Cyberint has emerged in recent years as one of the fastest growing External Risk Management companies in the market, with deep roots within cyber threat intelligence, digital risk protection, attack surface management and dark web monitoring. Taking advantage of a variety of home-grown technologies and in-house expertise, Cyberint created a unified approach to deal with external risk: the Argos platform.

The rationale for building the Argos platform was clear since due to the complexity of the external risk vectors, companies were facing the need to purchase multiple solutions, integrate them and manage each one separately. This activity is done in the Security Operation Center (SOC), an already busy and understaffed environment, operating under high pressure. The result lacked a comprehensive view of which threats are real and which are ‘noise’, what needs to be prioritized, and which mitigation action is required.

The Cyberint approach of a unified solution to deal with external risk was quickly adopted and soon enough the company was recognized as ‘Company of the Year’ in 2023 by Frost & Sullivan in the External Risk Mitigation & Management category. More and more customers found this approach of simplifying their SOC activities compelling.

This led to what eventually created the perfect storm or what we like to call Impactful Intelligence: the ability to run a full investigative process which effectively reduces cyber risk. Some of the innovations and key capabilities include the following:

• Delivering impactful intelligence within 20 minutes after setup, ensuring that security teams can respond to threats promptly.
• Utilizing, Threat Intelligence Digital Risk Protection, Darkweb Monitoring, Attack Surface Management and Brand Protection modules, Cyberint detects and executes takedowns of impersonating websites and social media accounts, as well as stolen credentials and leaked data associated with organizations. In addition, it enables customers to detect vulnerable internet-facing websites and apps, prioritize the threats and effectively mitigate these vulnerabilities.
• Cyberint uses AI to deliver effective risk detection, mitigation, and contextualized alerts with minimal false positives. Managed services further strengthen this approach, offering expert guidance and ensuring comprehensive, high-quality management.

Our Vision – Transform Identified Risks into Collaborative Threat Prevention

Check Point plays a significant role protecting organizations, delivering the best threat prevention. Check Point collects data from millions of devices, sensors and assets and provides customers with industry standard global intelligence. With the acquisition, Check Point will bolster its SOC capabilities to fulfill a bigger vision of collaborative threat prevention. The intention is to be able to turn Argos’ risks and intelligence into autonomous preventative actions and work collaboratively across Check Point and third party security products to contain compromised assets and mitigate external exposures.

Following the joint forces, the Cyberint platform and Cyberint customers will:

• Get unparalleled access to real-time threat visibility through Check Point’s global network of security platforms and 100K customers. Utilizing millions of sensors and deep know-how, Cyberint will enhance the ability to provide our customers with the best Global Intelligence.
• Using this unique network of sensors, dramatically enhance the IOC capabilities to be ahead of the attackers.
• Benefit from seamless operation via the Check Point’s Infinity Platform – Gold standard Security Management Platform.
• Execute Autonomous Mitigation. Utilizing Cyberint’s impactful intelligence identified risks automatically driven into Check Point’s network and enterprise products.

By integrating Cyberint’s capabilities into Check Point’s Infinity Platform, this vision can now become a reality. As an integrated approach, Check Point, powered by Cyberint, will offer a more comprehensive SOC offering that covers both internal and external threats and can automatically detect, analyze and mitigate a wide array of cyber threats by executing a variety of modern threat prevention tools across the network, cloud, workspace and external 3^rd parties.

Summary

The old saying “it takes a village” is also very relevant in the case of this acquisition. The Cyberint team over the years has shown persistence, dedication and focus by listening to customers, by being connected to the pulse of the market and by constantly innovating.  Amalgamating the different external threats into a unified platform was only the first phase in fulfilling Cyberint’s vision. The Check Point acquisition takes Cyberint to the next chapter in its evolution, which is to bring Impactful Intelligence to the masses by powering up the Check Point Infinity platform.
