Meta is down: Skynet and Other Groups Claim to Have Attacked

Update: Meta appears to be coming online again.

Breaking news: 3 threat actor groups (Skynet, Godzilla, and Anonymous Sudan) have claimed to attack and shut down Facebook, Threads and Instagram.

Users are being automatically logged out of Meta and being shown session expired messages. Then they are unable to log back in. Instagram is showing feed errors.

Last Thursday, the Skynet group published this :

A lot of users all over the world report issues with accessing both Instagram, Threads and Facebook. Although the group claims they are the reason, it’s important to note that as of now we cannot tell if it is truly due to the Skynet group or if it is a bug. As of now there is no proof of the attack.

The fact that it is 3 groups collaborating together Skynet, Godzilla, and Anonymous Sudan makes it appear that this actually could be a real claim, but as we stated before it is quite possible it could be a bluff.

Another point to note is that these 3 groups have collaborated before. In December 2023 Cyberint detected the three threat actor groups claiming responsibility for disrupting the Discord login page. They have also collaborated on various other projects together including an attack on ChatGPT.

Anonymous Sudan did not notify about the attack in advance, which they often do when undertaking such a major attack, so the group may be bluffing.

Although WhatsApp is part of meta it did not appear to go offline.
